الثّالث، مريّض محموم
مسكين الحب كواه
ينادي بغصّة مظلوم
هي دوايا، هي شفايا
بلا بيها ما نبرى

الرّابع، يبكي مهموم
كي نساتو وتعدّات

الخامس، ليالي بلا نوم
حتّى من إسمو نساه

وآخرهم، واحد مغروم
لا مال، و لا جاه
قاللها أنا عشقي يدوم
إنت مايا، إنت هوايا

English Translation


My Heart’s Desire


We heard they are coming today,
As desirous lovers,
With silver decorated Amber and a bundle of Jasmine coming to stay,
With gifts and songs...
Who would comfort our maiden?!

The gaze to the first blames,
'Why all this desire?'

She told the second, 'Stand up and leave your chains...
Go home and forget these aims.'

The third, queasy and weak with pains,
Has been lovesick, poor man.
He pleads in sadness, 'I am oppressed,' he claims.
'She's my potion, she's my medicine.
Without her, there is no soothing elixir to my flames.'

The fourth cries, a tear becomes a stain,
After she left him and did not explain.

The fifth, sleepless nights made him insane,
Until he forgot his own name.

And the last one, in love, unveils
With no money, no gems,
To her: 'My love stays forever.
You are the mist of life, my you are my heart's desire.
You are my glimmer of light, as through you my eyes gain their sight.
